Why this became Plump’s First Medically Advanced Skin Device
When we opened our Plump South Yarra clinic, one question followed us everywhere.
When are you getting a Skin device?
In an industry where new technology launches almost monthly, big names, imported imitations, and clinics often build their whole identity around a row of machines, people were surprised that we chose to wait.
That wait was deliberate.
My thinking was, “Why start with devices when you don’t fully understand the clinic’s patients and skin concerns?”
We wanted to be certain the device we introduced suited you, your needs, and your skin. A solution to our patients' concerns. Not just another laser brand name or technology for the sake of it, that we make work into your booking.
An intentionally selected modality, which we spent a year deliberating on.
We tested and trialled them all. Because we knew the standard of clinical skin results we offered needed to be maintained. A device that performs and can provide reliable results, comfort and suitability for you.
The Lumenis M22 Stella with XPL, Expert Pulse Light, is an advanced form of IPL. Intense pulsed light. It is the first energy-based device to join our South Yarra clinic, and it arrived only after years of watching, listening and asking one question of every treatment we offer. Will this genuinely help our patients?
This is the story of how we got here.
Building the foundations first, Plump began in cosmetic medicine in 2018.
In 2022, we grew into skin health, because we kept meeting patients whose concerns sat deeper than any single treatment could reach.
From the beginning, our focus was never the newest machine or trend. It was the work underneath it.
We built our foundations through:
• Comprehensive skin consultations
• Evidence-based treatment planning
• Clinical skincare
• Dermal therapies
• Cosmetic medicine
• Patient education
• Long-term skin health strategies
We wanted every recommendation to be guided by clinical need, not by the desire to use a particular device. That approach let us understand our community properly. Which concerns came up again and again where technology could actually make a difference, and where it could not.
Over time, the same concerns kept surfacing.
The concerns we see every day
Living in Melbourne means skin that carries the cost of strong UV, environmental stress and time.
Many of the patients we see present with:
• Facial redness
• Inflamed/ Reactive skin
• Rosacea
• Visible capillaries
• Sun damage
• Pigmentation
• Uneven skin tone
• Acne / Acne Scarring
• Acne-related redness/ skin issues
• Dullness and loss of radiance
• Early signs of skin ageing
Much of this can be improved through professional skincare, our current clinical treatments, our advanced skin needling protocols and cosmetic medicine.
But we knew there was room to support these outcomes further, with the right technology.
The challenge was finding a device that could address more than one concern while staying true to our philosophy of personalised, evidence-based care. Not a one sized fits most, but does not perform consistently or efficiently long term.
Why we chose the Lumenis M22 Stella XPL
The XPL stood out because it answered that challenge.
Rather than solving for a single concern, IPL gives us a versatile, research-driven platform that can be built into treatment plans for a range of common presentations.
In suitable candidates, it can help to:
• Address visible redness and vascular concerns
• Support the management of pigmentation and sun damage
• Improve overall skin clarity and luminosity
• Complement existing skin treatment plans
• Offer minimal downtime for most patients
• Sit alongside the services already offered at Plump
Most of all, it aligned with our commitment to long-term skin health rather than short-term trends.
Redness, rosacea and visible vessels
One quality of IPL resonated with us in particular. Its ability to target visible vascular concerns.
When people think about skin ageing, they think of lines, volume and laxity. But skin quality matters just as much as how healthy and refreshed skin looks. Persistent redness, flushing and visible vascular congestion can contribute to an uneven complexion, reduced luminosity and a chronically reactive appearance. We see this often in patients living with rosacea, sun damage or ongoing sensitivity.
By targeting visible vascular concerns in suitable candidates, the XPL may help improve skin clarity and support a more balanced complexion. For many people, a more even skin tone changes how healthy their skin looks before anything else is addressed.
Pigmentation and sun damage
Pigmentation is one of the most common concerns we see in clinic.
Whether it shows up as sun spots, uneven pigmentation, post-inflammatory pigmentation or general photodamage, it can dull skin clarity and add years to the way skin reads.
IPL lets us bring a technology-based approach into broader pigmentation plans, alongside the right skincare, sun protection and professional treatments. As with every skin concern, outcomes vary between individuals, and recommendations are always tailored to each person’s presentation.
Where IPL fits in our philosophy
At Plump, rejuvenation has never meant treating one thing.
Healthy skin is shaped by many factors. Skin quality. Inflammation. Pigmentation. Vascular health. Hydration. Collagen support. Lifestyle. Consistent skincare. Cosmetic medicine, where appropriate.
This is where IPL belongs. Not as a replacement for other treatments, but as another way to address the parts of skin appearance that contribute to an overall sense of clarity and radiance. For patients already investing in their skin, the XPL gives us one more considered tool, used only when it is clinically right for them.
More than a machine
When clinics invest in a device, the conversation usually turns to specifications and treatment menus.
For us, it was about something larger.
The XPL represents years of listening, refining and identifying where technology could truly lift the outcomes we work toward every day.
It reflects our commitment to introducing new treatments only vigorously tested, trialled, and proven, that we truly believe in and align with our values.
It reflects our belief that technology should support clinical decision-making, not drive it.
And it reflects our promise to keep evolving while staying true to the principles Plump was built on. Personalised care. Education. Integrity. Evidence-based practice.
Looking ahead
The XPL is the first energy-based device to join Plump. It is also a milestone.
It widens how we can support patients living with visible redness, rosacea, pigmentation, sun damage and overall skin rejuvenation. And it lets us keep doing what we set out to do from the start. Build personalised treatment plans that prioritise skin health, patient confidence and lasting outcomes.
Because every decision at Plump begins with the same question.
Will this genuinely help our patients?
After years of research, observation and care, the XPL became an easy answer.
We are glad to share this next chapter with you.
