Chemical peels are one of the most reliable ways to refresh the skin, and also one of the most misunderstood. For a lot of people the word "peel" brings up images of raw, flaking skin and a week spent hiding indoors. The reality is much broader than that. A peel can be as gentle as a quiet glow before an event, or as considered as a corrective treatment for pigmentation and texture. It comes down to the formulation, the strength, and how carefully it is matched to your skin.
At Plump, we assess first. We do not believe in reaching for the strongest treatment on day one. We start by understanding your skin, your history, and what you are hoping to change, then we recommend the peel that genuinely suits where your skin is right now. To make that process clearer for you, we have grouped our peels into three tiers. We call it the Plump & Glow tier system.
A chemical peel uses a professional-grade solution to encourage the skin to shed its outer layers in a controlled way. As those tired surface cells lift away, fresher, healthier skin is revealed underneath, and the skin's natural renewal process is gently stimulated.
Peels are not one single thing. They range from very superficial formulations that simply refresh and brighten, through to advanced corrective formulations that work deeper to target pigment, texture, and the visible signs of ageing. The acid used, its strength, and the way it is applied all change what the treatment can do and how much recovery is involved.
Depending on the peel selected and your individual skin, a treatment may help to:
Results vary from person to person, which is exactly why we tailor every peel to the individual rather than offering a single treatment to everyone.
Skin is not one-size-fits-all, and neither is a peel. Someone who has never had a professional treatment needs a very different starting point to someone who has been through a structured peel program and wants to push further.
Tiering our peels into “levels” lets us meet you where your skin actually is. It gives us a clear, considered pathway, often starting gently and progressing only when your skin is ready. It also keeps things honest. If a gentle peel is the right call for you, that is what we will recommend, regardless of what looks most impressive on paper.
Our Tier One peels are very superficial, with minimal to no downtime. They are ideal for first-time clients, anyone who feels a little peel-shy, those with sensitive or reactive skin, or anyone who simply cannot spare much recovery time. They provide gentle exfoliation, refresh dull skin, and help support overall skin health and function.
Tier One peels are also commonly used to prepare and prime the skin before more advanced treatments such as skin needling, laser, or a more corrective peel program.
Best suited for:
Peels in this tier at Plump: single-acid mono peels such as our Toskani mandelic and lactic peels, the Dermaceutic Milk Peel, and the gentle PCA Sensi Peel. These are the softest way into peels, and a lovely pre-event refresh.
Tier Two is the next step for clients wanting more targeted correction and more visible change. These peels are often recommended once you have had a Tier One treatment, or if you are already familiar with professional skin treatments and active skincare at home.
These are still superficial peels, but they provide a greater level of stimulation. Because of that, they may involve some mild downtime such as dryness, light flaking, or a little peeling over a few days.
Best suited for:
Peels in this tier at Plump: the more active formulations within our PCA Skin, Société, Dermaceutic and Toskani ranges. Think the PCA Ultra Peel for tired or maturing skin, the Dermaceutic Mask Peel for congestion and breakouts, and targeted salicylic, glycolic and pigment peels matched to your concern.
Tier Three is our most advanced, most results-focused category. It includes formulations such as TCA peels of various strenghts and blends,, Jessners and modified Jessner peels, and specialised pigment peels, which offer greater stimulation and corrective potential than our Tier One and Tier Two options.
These treatments are typically recommended for more complex concerns such as stubborn pigmentation, acne scarring, significant sun damage, uneven texture, and visible signs of ageing. Some clients progress to Tier Three after working through lower-tier peels. For others, their skin condition and treatment history may indicate they are a suitable candidate sooner. That is a decision we make together, in consultation.
Because these peels are more active, they may involve a period of visible peeling, some downtime, and a more structured aftercare plan. Skin preparation and priming beforehand are often part of the process, both to support the result and to help reduce the risk of complications.
Best suited for:
Includes: TCA peels such as the Dermaceutic Cosmo Peel range, Jessner and modified Jessner peels, advanced pigment peels, and selected combination and corrective peel protocols.
Expected downtime: moderate, depending on the peel selected and how your skin responds. These are not entry-level peels and always require a consultation to determine suitability.
We have deliberately built a broad peel menu so we can match the formulation to the skin rather than forcing the skin to fit one product line.
Our range are from well-knowned, resrached and medically-minded sources.
This may include the professional PCA Skin range, Société peels, the full Dermaceutic professional range, the full Toskani professional range, single-acid mono peels such as lactic and mandelic acid, and our advanced TCA, Jessner, and modified Jessner peels.
We don't expect you to come in with the professional peel know-how, that’s our job and why our experienced Dermal Clinicians have completed University degree in Dermal Science and collectively have more than 16years industry experience.
That being said, if you are being referred to us from a previous-dermal-clinic management, we always welcome reflecting on your previous experiences and professional ranges that have clinically delivered for you in the past.
Each of our professional peel products gives us formulations across the tiers, from the gentlest entry-level options through to advanced corrective work. Which one we choose for you depends entirely on your skin, your concern, and your goals.
Every peel at Plump starts with a proper skin consultation. We look at your skin in detail, talk through your history and any past treatments, and listen to what you are actually hoping to change. From there, we recommend the tier and the specific peel that suits you, and we are upfront about what it can realistically do and what the recovery looks like.
Often that means starting in Tier One and building from there. Sometimes it means going straight to a more corrective option, if your skin and history support it. Either way, the recommendation is based on your skin, not a script.
The work often starts before you are ever in the treatment chair. Depending on your skin and the peel we have chosen, we may ask you to prepare your skin at home for a few weeks first. This usually means the right cleanser, targeted actives and a daily SPF, and for some skins a retinoid to support cell turnover, or a tyrosinase inhibitor to calm melanocyte activity and reduce the risk of pigmentation afterwards. Prepping this way builds a healthy, resilient barrier, helps your skin tolerate the treatment beautifully, and means your results actually last rather than being a brief, short lived look. We will always tell you exactly what your skin needs before we begin. Nothing is rushed, and nothing touches your skin before it is ready.
Every peel begins with an assessment so we can tailor the strength, layering and any boosters to your skin on the day. We cleanse and prepare the skin, then apply the peel in a considered, controlled way, adjusting as we go. Some peels feel like nothing more than a light tingle or warmth. Depending on the tier, your skin may look flushed straight after, settling to a light pink similar to mild sun exposure. From there you may notice tightness, some dryness, and light flaking or shedding over the following days as the skin renews. This is completely normal and part of the process. Everyone responds a little differently, which is exactly why we personalise your treatment and talk you through what to expect for your skin.
Because a peel works with your own skin, the improvements you build are yours to support and keep. That said, skin is always ageing and responding to daily life, sun exposure and your internal health, so results are best thought of as something we maintain rather than a one off fix. The most meaningful change comes from consistency. Staying on your homecare, wearing a daily broad spectrum SPF, and returning for treatments spaced to suit your skin, often as a considered course or seasonal maintenance, is what creates real, lasting change. We map all of this out with you so there is never any guesswork, just a clear plan to protect the investment you have made in your skin.
At Plump we are assess first, restraint led and always guided by what is right for your skin, not what is strongest on the menu. We start gently and progress you only when your skin is ready, because pushing too hard too soon is how skin gets damaged rather than better. Sequencing matters, preparation matters, and the health of your barrier always comes first. Being a medical skin clinic means every peel is chosen and performed by an experienced clinician, matched carefully to your skin type and history, and gated behind a proper consultation. Some peels are not suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding, some require specific skin priming beforehand, and every treatment carries individual variation in how the skin responds. We will always talk you through suitability, downtime and aftercare so you feel informed and looked after at every step.
Sun protection is not the finishing touch, it is the foundation. After any peel your skin is freshly resurfaced and more vulnerable, so protecting it is what keeps your results safe and stops new pigmentation forming. A peel lifts away pigment and brings fresh skin to the surface. Unprotected sun and heat can undo that work and drive pigment straight back, sometimes worse than before.
Daily broad spectrum SPF is non negotiable. Wear it every single day, reapply through the day when you are outdoors, and be especially diligent in the weeks after treatment. Back it up with physical protection too. A UPF rated hat, UPF clothing to cover treated areas, and good UV protective sunglasses all shield the skin far more than SPF alone can.
Heat matters just as much as direct sun, because heat alone can stimulate pigment. In the first days to weeks after your peel, avoid hot and humid climates where you can, and skip saunas, infrared saunas, hot showers and anything that leaves the skin flushed. Keep exercise gentle for a little while. Very high intensity training, heated Pilates and hot yoga all raise the skin’s temperature and can aggravate redness and pigmentation, so ease back until your skin has settled.
Support the skin from the inside and out as well. Antioxidants are your daily defence against the free radical damage that UV and environmental stress create, so a well formulated vitamin C sits beautifully under your SPF each morning to boost that protection. For anyone prone to pigment, tyrosinase inhibitors and melanin regulating ingredients help calm the melanocyte activity that drives discolouration, keeping your tone even and your results holding for longer.
None of this needs to feel overwhelming. We will always map out exactly the right protection, homecare and antioxidant support for your skin, so looking after your results feels like a simple, everyday habit rather than a chore.
If you have been curious about peels but were not sure where to start, this is exactly what a consultation is for. We will assess your skin, talk you through the options, how this relates to your skin concerns and presentation and map out a plan that will progressively head towards your skin goals.

*Chemical peels are a cosmetic medical treatment. Results vary between individuals and depend on your skin, your concern, and your response to treatment. The information here is general in nature and is not a substitute for a personalised consultation. A consultation with one of our qualified clinicians is required to determine whether a peel, and which tier, is suitable for you.
