Infrared Sauna Melbourne

Deep, penetrating warmth in a private South Yarra studio.
Our infrared sauna in Melbourne sits at the centre of the Plump flagship in South Yarra, and it is the room our clients come back to. A three-person Kiva Wellness infrared sauna, booked privately, with an inbuilt sound system and chromotherapy lighting so the session belongs to you alone.

Choose 30 minutes to decompress after a long day, or 55 minutes when your body is asking for more. Whether you are training for a marathon, competing in Hyrox or CrossFit, powerlifting, dancing, or simply carrying a week that has been heavier than most, this is somewhere to put it down. We also stock personal-use lymphatic tools to take the session further.

What Is an Infrared Sauna?

A traditional sauna heats the air around you, and you warm up second-hand. An infrared sauna works the other way. Infrared light waves pass through the air and warm your body directly, so the room itself stays at a lower ambient temperature while the heat you feel goes deeper.

In practice that means a warmth that builds rather than hits, at a temperature most people find far more comfortable to sit in for 30 or 55 minutes. It is often the better starting point for anyone who has found conventional saunas overwhelming, or who has never sat in one at all.

How an Infrared Sauna Works on the Body

As your core temperature rises, circulation increases and you begin to perspire, which is the body's own cooling and clearing mechanism doing its work. Most clients describe the effect afterwards as loose, warm and quietly clear-headed.

For anyone training hard, the appeal is recovery. Heat and increased blood flow are widely used to ease post-workout soreness and muscle stiffness, and a sauna session is an unhurried way to give your body that time. Infrared sauna is a wellness therapy rather than a medical treatment, and it is not a substitute for medical care or physiotherapy for an injury.

Your Infrared Sauna Session at Plump

Sessions are booked privately, so the sauna is yours for the time you are here. Arrive a few minutes early, hydrate, and settle in.

Our Kiva Wellness cabin seats three, so you can come alone or bring someone with you. Connect your own music through the inbuilt sound system and set the chromotherapy lighting to whatever suits the mood you are after. Bring a change of clothes and give yourself a moment afterwards rather than rushing straight back out onto Chapel Street.

Sessions run 30 or 55 minutes, and can be booked individually or as part of a package for regular visitors.

Who Infrared Sauna Suits

Infrared sauna suits you if you are:

Training seriously and looking for a recovery ritual you will actually keep
Managing post-workout soreness or general muscle stiffness
Looking for a way to decompress that does not involve a screen
Curious about sauna but put off by the heat of a traditional one
Building a regular wellness routine alongside your skin or body treatments

Infrared sauna is contraindicated for some health conditions. If you are pregnant, have cardiovascular concerns, or have any relevant health history, please check with your GP before booking.

Pair It With a Cold Plunge

Moving from infrared heat straight into cold-water immersion is known as contrast therapy, and it is the pairing most of our regulars settle into. The shift between the two is sharp, grounding and, for most people, unexpectedly energising.

You can book the infrared sauna on its own, the cold plunge on its own, or the two together as a 55 minute contrast session. If it is your first time, our team will walk you through a guided protocol so you are not guessing at timing.

Frequently Asked Questions

What do you wear in an infrared sauna?

Whatever you are comfortable in. Most clients wear activewear, swimwear, or a towel. Because your session is private, it is entirely your call. Bring a change of clothes for afterwards, as you will perspire.

How long should you stay in an infrared sauna?

We offer 30 and 55 minute sessions. If you are new to infrared, start with 30 minutes and see how your body responds. Step out at any point if you feel light-headed, and drink water before and after.

How often should you use an infrared sauna?

Most of our regular clients come once or twice a week and build from there. Consistency matters more than duration, so a shorter session you keep to will do more than a long one you dread.

How hot does an infrared sauna get?

An infrared sauna runs at a noticeably lower ambient temperature than a traditional Finnish sauna, because the light waves warm you rather than the air. That is why longer sessions stay comfortable. Our team will set it for you and can adjust it on the day.

Are infrared saunas suitable for everyone?

No. Heat therapy is contraindicated in pregnancy, in some cardiovascular conditions, and alongside certain medications. If you have any relevant health history, speak with your GP before booking. Let our team know on arrival so we can look after you properly.

What are the benefits of an infrared sauna?

Clients come to us for recovery after training, relief from muscle stiffness and soreness, and time to decompress. The warmth increases circulation and encourages perspiration, which is the body's natural way of cooling and clearing. We make no medical claims for it. It is a wellness therapy, and a very good one.
