Some treatments you book because of how you look. This one, most people book because of how they feel.
Heavy. Puffy. A little sluggish. Like the body is holding onto more than it should. That feeling is what brings most people through our doors for lymphatic drainage massage, and it's a good place to start, because it tells you something important about what this treatment is really for.
Here's a proper look at lymphatic drainage massage, what your lymphatic system does, what the treatment can genuinely help with, and why we approach it the way we do.
Lymphatic drainage massage is gentle by design. Light pressure, slow rhythm, movements that follow the body's lymphatic pathways. It is not deep tissue, and not an aggressive, tool-led treatment that promises you'll leave "snatched".
It works with the body rather than against it. Because the touch is light and rhythmic by design, most people find it deeply relaxing. Deep tension, stress and an overworked nervous system ease off, and most people drift into a state of calm.
At Plump, it's carried out by Alida, our Naturopath, who brings an evidence-based, holistic but medical, whole-body, assess-first approach to every session.
To understand the treatment, it helps to understand the system it supports.

Your lymphatic system is a network that runs throughout the body, moving fluid and waste as part of how you stay well. Think of it as part of your body's natural clearance system. It carries fluid, filters it, and keeps things moving.
Here's the part most people don't know. Unlike your circulatory system, which has the heart as a pump, your lymphatic system has no pump of its own. It relies almost entirely on movement to keep fluid flowing: muscle contraction, breathing, physical activity. When life slows down, or you've been sitting through a long flight, or you're run down after a big week, that flow can become sluggish.
Lymphatic drainage massage is designed to support and encourage that natural flow. That's the whole idea behind it.
Alida didn't come to lymphatic drainage as a standalone service. She came to it through her naturopathy practice.
Over years of working with patients, she kept noticing the same thread. Sluggish lymphatic flow showing up quietly in the background of so many of the concerns people were bringing to her. Skin issues. Gut issues. Chronic stress and the wired, run-down feeling that comes with it. Chronic inflammation. PCOS and endometriosis. Sleep disturbances. Different presentations on the surface, but a common contributing factor underneath.
So she pursued further education and specialised in lymphatic drainage, because she saw first-hand how often supporting this system could be one meaningful piece of a much bigger picture.
That's the lens she brings to every session. Not a massage in isolation, but a treatment rooted in how the whole body is functioning. It's naturopathy and bodywork working together, which is exactly why it sits so well within how we practise at Plump.
The most common reason people come in is puffiness and fluid retention. Morning puffiness. That heavy, waterlogged feeling. Fluid that lingers after travel, after a big week, or around your cycle.
This treatment can genuinely help with that. It's one of the main reasons people book. Many describe feeling lighter afterwards, and that sense of lightness is often the thing that brings them back.
As with anything, results vary from person to person. Your body, your circumstances and how consistently you come will all shape what you notice.
This matters to us, so we want to be direct about it.
You'll see lymphatic drainage marketed elsewhere with dramatic before and after photos, promising a slimmer, more "snatched" result. We don't buy into that trend, and we won't market this treatment that way.
Any visible change from a session is fluid-based: shifting stagnant lymph fluid, resetting the system to flow, and supporting systemic results over an aesthetic one.
Presenting lymphatic drainage massage as a slimming treatment gives a misguided idea of what this treatment actually does. The real goal and benefit is systemic release. It's about supporting how your body moves fluid and how you feel, not shrinking you for a photo.
As registered health practitioners, we follow medical advertising standards, which means no misleading claims and no creating unrealistic expectations. But beyond the rules, it's simply how we practise. We're a medical based clinic, and we won't reduce a whole-body wellness treatment to a single image for the sake of marketing. We won't sell wellness as a shortcut to skinny.
Most people feel lighter. You'll also likely need the bathroom more than usual, and that's a good sign. It means your body is doing exactly what the treatment is designed to encourage.
Our advice is simple. Drink plenty of water. Move gently. Let your body do the rest.
It depends on you and your goals. Some people start weekly to build momentum, then ease into fortnightly or monthly sessions to maintain. Others come in as they need to, before an event or after travel.
There's no fixed rule here, which is exactly why we assess first. Alida will guide you on what makes sense for your body after your first session.
Lymphatic drainage massage is one of the gentlest treatments we offer, and it's suitable for most people, including during pregnancy.
That said, it isn't right for absolutely everyone. If you're unwell, or managing a heart, kidney or circulation condition, it's worth checking with your GP first. We'll always assess before we begin, because that's how we practise across everything we do.
Lymphatic drainage sits within how we think about skin and wellbeing as a whole. We treat the body from the inside out, and this treatment is a good example of that philosophy in action. It's not about a quick visual fix. It's about supporting the systems that keep you feeling well.
Rosacea is a vascular and inflammatory condition at its core, which is exactly why gentle lymphatic work can be a thoughtful part of the picture. By supporting the body's management of fluid and inflammation, lymphatic drainage may help calm that sense of heat, congestion and reactivity some people carry in their skin. It's gentle, it's non-irritating, and for skin that flares easily, that gentleness matters. It sits alongside barrier support and root-cause work, rather than replacing it.
Acne is rarely just skin deep. It's often tied to inflammation, stress and how the body is processing things internally, which is why Alida approaches it through both naturopathy and bodywork. Lymphatic drainage can support the body's clearance and calm inflammation, which may help congested, reactive skin feel less inflamed over time. It's one supportive piece within a bigger plan, never a standalone fix.
This is the part people underestimate. Chronic stress keeps the body locked in a heightened state, and that affects everything downstream, from inflammation to sleep to skin. Lymphatic drainage is slow, rhythmic and deeply calming. It gently shifts the nervous system out of that wired, run-down state and into rest. Many people leave feeling genuinely settled, and that nervous system reset is often just as valuable as the physical work. Given how closely stress and inflammation feed skin concerns, calming one helps the other.
So much of what women carry through the month is tied to fluid, inflammation and how the body is coping, which is exactly the territory lymphatic drainage works within.
Different phases of the menstrual cycle can bring bloating, heaviness, tender fluid retention and disrupted sleep. For many women this is simply part of the rhythm of the month, and it can feel like the body is holding onto more than it should. Gentle lymphatic drainage can help support the body through those phases, easing that puffy, sluggish, weighed-down feeling and calming the nervous system in a way that can help you rest more easily.
For those managing endometriosis or PCOS, this feeling is often more constant and more intense. These are complex conditions that always need proper medical care, and lymphatic drainage is never a treatment for them. But as a gentle, supportive therapy, it may help with some of the bloating, heaviness and general discomfort that can come alongside them, offering a moment of relief and calm within a bigger care plan.
This is women's wellness the way we believe in it. Not overpromising, not quick fixes. Just gentle, considered support for a body that's often doing a lot, quietly, all month long.
This is the thread running through everything we do at Plump. Skin, inflammation, hormone issues, women's health concerns, stress and fluid are not separate problems. They're connected, and lymphatic drainage is one of the clearest examples of a treatment that works across all of them at once. It doesn't target a single concern. It supports the systems underneath the concerns. That's what we mean when we say we treat the body from the inside out.

If you've been feeling heavy, puffy or sluggish, or you simply want to give your body a gentle reset, this might be exactly what you're looking for.
